Quality counts! Image Access scanners
are compliant with FADGI and ISO 19264-1

Image Access incorporates the two most important image quality guidelines, FADGI and ISO 19264!

The Federal Agencies Digitization Guideline Initiative, FADGI, develops common digitization guidelines for historical and cultural materials that can be reproduced as still images, such as textual content, maps, photographic prints and negatives. The overall goal is to define quality standards in digitization projects to achieve consistent and sufficient quality. FADGI defines the whole process and not only one component, like a scanner.
FADGI originates in the US government but also has spread out internationally in recent times.

The new ISO standard 19264-1, Image Quality Analysis, defined similar parameters which need to be met to obtain good and consistent digitization quality. ISO standards are worldwide standards. Both FADGI and ISO 19264 are very similar and we expect that they will coexist for a longer time.

With the latest firmware release 6.72, Image Access has created FAGI and ISO templates that assist in following the guidelines. Many other components of the digitization workflow also need to be addressed. In addition to the optical and mechanical parameters of the scanner and the image enhancement algorithms, light also plays a very important role. A scanner needs a high-quality LED based illumination but, open scanners like Bookeye overhead scanners also must take ambient light into consideration. Ambient light conditions may change over the course of a day or with the changing color of the operator's shirt.

Other vendors only mention FADGI and ISO 19264 but we deliver a lot more. All Bookeye and WideTEK scanners are now shipped with templates which assist in calibrating the scanner with the test targets specified in the guidelines. We also deliver proof of compliance by providing sample scans on the homepage. We also provide detailed information and a comparison in our FAQ Quality Controlled Scanning (ISO 19264-1, FADGI, Metamorfoze) Once you have read the industry's most comprehensive document, you can start your FADGI or ISO 19264 compliant digitization project with a Bookeye or WideTEK scanner.
